Fiaccolata
Walking with a torch in hand from Solferino to Castiglione delle Stiviere is a powerful way to remember the establishment of the largest humanitarian organization in the world!
Imagine being part of the wave of thousands of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers from all over the world who meet to demonstrate with their presence, the strength, value and importance of the largest network of humanitarians! 14 million to be exact! The walk retraces the same route traveled by volunteers who transported the wounded during the battle back in 1859 when Henry Dunant gave birth to the idea of the Red Cross. The event is a moment of joy, inspiration, bonding and sharing; all united under a single flag that symbolizes charity and help towards others. A true representation of something exceptional and inspires the humanitarian spirit to live on year after year.
The 2024 fee to participate in the fiaccolata has not been established but the previous year was 5 euros which includes the torch, water and your Solferino badge.
As always, the fiaccolata will always be held closest to June 24th, the anniversary of the Battle of Solferino. The walk commences at 1900 from Piazza Castello and varies in length. It can be anywhere from 8 km to 15 km and take 3 1/2 to 4 hours to complete!
The day of the 2024 torchlight procession will be Saturday, June 22, 2024.
